Canada Day Hike with Mitacs Globalink: Nature, Networking, and New Memories

Canada Day rolled in with a splash of sun and an adventurous plan: a hike in the Huron Natural Area near Waterloo. Thanks to the impeccable coordination by Ms. Bara, I found myself amidst a spirited group of five mentees, all the way from India, ready to embrace the Canadian outdoors.

As we set foot on the trail, the beauty of nature surrounded us - the gentle rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the sun filtering through the trees. But what made the hike truly special was the company. We might all be here thanks to our Mitacs Globalink summer research projects at the University of Waterloo, but the conversations went beyond just research. We shared stories from our hometowns, exchanged unique perspectives, and laughed over shared experiences.

The hike wasn’t just about feeling the heartbeat of nature, but also about connecting with brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds. It was a day of celebration, not just for Canada, but for the global friendships we were building.

Here’s to many more days of discovery, both in the lab and out in the wild!
